Water shortage due to bulk pipeline damage

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) experienced challenges in supplying water to Nkowankowa and the surrounding villages on Tuesday.

This was due to damage in the bulk pipe from the Nkowankowa Water Treatment Plant to the Dan Reservoirs, according to a statement issued by the municipality.

Water supply challenges were experienced in Nkowankowa, Dan, Mariveni, Mohlaba, Mhlaba Cross Sasekani, Rita (Khopo) and Khujwana.

“Work to repair the damage to the bulk pipe is underway and its nearing completion. Within the next hour water will be pumped into the system and if there is no leakage water will be pumped directly into the reticulation system and those in low lying areas will receive water first with high lying areas getting water later,” said the municipality in a statement.

The municipality added that as a temporary relief measure, the municipality has dispatched water tankers to assist residents with water.

GTM said people should contact their ward councillors to find out how to access water tankers in their areas.
