Mopani Circuit honours their matric achievers

The Department of Education’s Mopani West District Circuit celebrated their matric results during their excellence awards held at Tivumbeni Hall in Nkowankowa on Friday, February 10.

The circuit achieved a 76.7% pass rate and was named the third-best district in Limpopo. The class of 2022 was very competitive and Makhutswe Circuit produced the top three learners in the district. Immanuel Mahlaku from Ramatau Secondary School outshined other matrics by attaining seven distinctions with an aggregate of 91.3%.

The second best learner is his fellow schoolmate, Matsie Magoro, who attained a 90.1% aggregate, and the third position went to Felicia Moagi from Magwahlong High School, also from the Makhutswe Circuit.

Meanwhile, Meridian Combined School was named the best independent school in the district, with all of its 56 learners attaining bachelor passes. Merensky High School was named the best-performing public school in terms of bachelor passes. Out of 195 learners who wrote,163 attained bachelor passes. Tzaneen was named the best circuit with an 89.9% pass rate, followed by Lepelle 4, which attained 83.6%, and Xihoko third with 80.7%.

Matokane Secondary School was named the most improved school. They have been constantly improving their results in the last three years. In 2020 they attained 65.2%, in 2021 they got 73.3%, and in 100% in 2022. The district director of Mopani West, Philippine Modika, also thanked Philipot Ngobeni, Apostle Vorster Hlungwana, Mish Tshabalala, Rinae Sikwari and Vision FM for their continued support of the district.

The event was also attended by the executive mayor of the Mopani District Municipality, Pule Shayi, who applauded teachers and learners for their excellent performance. Modika told the Herald that their target for 2023 is 90%. “I feel elated, humbled, and grateful to everyone who played a role in our success. One of our strategies was to engage all stakeholders, traditional leaders, political leaders, and religious leaders. All hands were on deck hence this good performance,” she concluded.
