Nqobile gets top spot in local pageant

Nqobile Zwane (17) was crowned the 2023 Empress of Phalaborwa over the festive season at the Mashishimale Community Hall.

Days before the pageant, she almost did not enter as she was anxious but is now glad that she dared to give it a try. She hopes to pursue health sciences or medicine this year after completing matric last year. She started taking part in pageants in 2019 but did not do well.

However, in 2022, she decided to try again and was crowned Miss Ntshuxeko High School. She told the Herald that she is pleased with her win and her focus will be to help young women find their self-worth. “I see many young girls throwing themselves at older men.

My mission is to help them value themselves more and for young mothers not to neglect themselves and their babies. “There is life and hope after failing in life,” she said. The first runner-up is Zinhle Mkhabela and the second runner-up is Krishna Malatjie. Miss Personality was won by Phambi Mmola.

The event was established by Dipuo Malatji, also known as Lee Cassa in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. “The pageant is about teaching young women, queenship and to value themselves. We help mentor these women in all aspects of life and teach them the importance of education,” Mkhabela said. For more information follow Empress of Phalaborwa-official on social media.
