Phalaborwa residents celebrate heritage and culture

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality celebrates Heritage Month with traditional performances, music, and fashion, emphasising cultural preservation.

TZANEEN – Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality in partnership with LEOLO Community Trust hosted a Heritage Month celebration at the Mashishimale Sports Complex Hall on Friday, September 20.

The event was attended by stakeholders including Foskor, the Department of Limpopo Sport, Arts and Culture, Maphutha L Malatji Hospital, and Living Memories funeral parlour.

Traditional groups from Diphala and Sekhapa Khekhapa entertained the guests. Contemporary music groups also performed at the event

Local fashion designers also held a fashion show showcasing traditional attires.

During the event, Mabakane Mangena, and representatives of the Banakome and Seloane traditional authorities urged communities to preserve indigenous
trees.

Mayor Merriam Malatji, popularly known as Mama Action, urged the Department of Sports Arts and Culture to increase its budget in a bid to eradicate poverty, unemployment and inequalities.

She asked communities to teach young people the importance of preserving their culture and heritage.
