VIN hosts fundraising hike at Mawaveni Mountain

VIN's fundraising hike at Mawaveni Mountain supports village learners with mentorship, education prizes, and community engagement.

LIMPOPO – Members of Vutivi I Ndzhaka (VIN) recently gathered at Mawaveni Mountain for their annual fundraising hike, continuing their commitment to unlocking village education.

The event brought together participants to support learners from the villages of Mulati, Bonn, Sedan, Ntsako, and Mafarana in the Letsitele area.

VIN is known for mentoring and coaching matriculants and focuses on personal growth, academic support, career guidance, and life skills. Each year, they reward high-performing Gr 12 learners with cash prizes and electronic devices to inspire academic excellence among younger students.

This year’s hike featured two scenic trails, 5km and 10km, offering breathtaking views from the Mawaveni mountains. After completing the trails, participants joined networking sessions with sponsors and supporters while enjoying food and refreshments.

Adding to the day’s excitement, a friendly soccer tournament was held at the Marothi Sports Ground, with four teams, Bonn Youngsters, Mulati Soccer Stars, Mafarana Eleven Experience, and Sedan Unite, competing.

The tournament began with Bonn Youngsters defeating Mulati Soccer Stars 3-1, and Mafarana Eleven Experience edging out Sedan United 2-1. The final match saw Mulati Soccer Stars clinch victory in a nail-biting 6-5 penalty shootout against Sedan United.

VIN chairman Loyd Rikhotso hailed the event as a success. “We are grateful for the incredible turnout, from senior citizens to the youth.

“It truly highlighted our ethos of unlocking village education,” Rikhotso said.

Looking ahead, VIN plans to expand its mentorship programme, increase student registrations at higher learning institutions, and work with relevant departments to address school dropouts and teenage pregnancies.

The organisation will host its annual career day and gala dinner in April to further their mission.

VIN is appealing to donors and sponsors to support their initiatives.
