Limpopo MEC addresses Hoveni safety concerns
MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, met Hoveni residents to address safety concerns after violent attacks earlier this month.
TZANEEN – Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, led a stakeholder engagement meeting in Hoveni village on May 22, following a horrific incident on May 9 involving the robbery, assault, and rape of minors.
The attack left residents shaken and deeply concerned about their safety.
In response, Mathye met with traditional leaders, ward councillors, local business owners, and residents to address urgent issues around community safety and development. She stressed the importance of involving citizens in government decision-making.
“Sustainable development is only possible when we engage in open dialogue with the communities we serve,” Mathye said. “Today’s meeting in Hoveni shows our commitment to inclusive planning and meaningful service delivery.”
During the meeting, community members called for improved support for the local Community Policing Forum (CPF), requesting better training, protective gear, and essential safety equipment to help members carry out their duties effectively.
Residents also appealed for the establishment of a satellite police station in the area to strengthen local law enforcement and improve response times.
According to the police, they are still searching for the suspects of the attack.
