Community writing classes launched in Phalaborwa

Author Felicia Rikhotso offers writing classes to help residents of all ages improve storytelling skills and preserve their personal histories.

LIMPOPO – Publisher and author Felicia Rikhotso is giving back to her community by sharing her writing skills with residents of Phalaborwa.

She recently launched a series of writing classes aimed at helping both young and old improve their storytelling abilities and tap into her wealth of experience.

Rikhotso is the founder of Captain Lingua Publishers and the author of five books, available on various platforms. Her classes are accessible to the public, including house-call sessions, offered in a five-session package for R1 500.

Based in Namakgale, Rikhotso said the inspiration to start teaching came after repeated requests from community members who sought guidance in writing.

“Many adults approached me, asking for help to preserve personal stories or secrets they want to share after they’ve passed on,” she explained. “I love sharing my experience and skills because I know not everyone has had the privilege of a formal education like I did.”

Rikhotso’s journey as a writer began with personal journaling in her diary. Her knowledge deepened after studying language practice, where she learned the structure and process of writing a book, skills she now passes on to her students.

“When I studied language practice, I learned how to build a book from scratch. These classes are my way of transferring that knowledge to others,” she said.

When she is not writing or teaching, Rikhotso serves as a dedicated police officer, another role she says she loves deeply.
