11-year-old sinks hole-in-one at Tzaneen golf course

Hluri Sedibe (11) became the youngest and first black female to score a hole-in-one at Tzaneen Country Club, making local golf history.

TZANEEN – An 11-year-old golfer made history at Tzaneen Country Club last Sunday by becoming both the youngest player and the first black female to score a hole-in-one on the course.

Hluri Sedibe, a learner at Tzaneen Primary School, has loved golf since the age of four. Her father, Nathi Sedibe, introduced her to the sport and has been her biggest supporter ever since.

“I started teaching her when she was just four years old,” he said proudly. “Now she’s outplaying me!”

Hluri’s historic shot came on Sunday, June 15, at the sixth hole. She hit the ball 141 metres straight to the flag, and straight into the hole.

“High five! A hole-in-one!” exclaimed her father as Hluri excitedly skipped down the fairway to see it for herself.

Sharing the moment with his daughter was unforgettable for Nathi.

“She’s a hard worker, practices every day, and loves to compete,” he said.

While a few skilled golfers have managed to sink a hole-in-one at Tzaneen Country Club over the years, typically on the 18th hole, Hluri’s accomplishment on the sixth hole stands out as both rare and record-breaking.

Adding to her remarkable weekend, Hluri also secured first place in the youth division of the Salvation Cathedral fundraiser golf day, scoring 28 points at the same club.
