Community mourns the loss of Hoedspruit boy (11)

Community members mourn the passing of Daniel Otto, a courageous boy with Congenital Muscular Dystrophy who inspired many with his strength and spirit.

HOEDSPRUIT – Daniel Otto, a gentle soul from Hoedspruit, was only 11 years old but carried a courage far beyond his years.

Living with Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (CMD), Daniel faced his daily battles with a quiet strength that inspired everyone around him. Daniel sadly recently passed away.

In a Facebook post, Belinda Barkas paid tribute to Daniel. She was involved with Daniel over the years, organising events to raise money for his back braces.

“Without even knowing it, Daniel gave me more hope, purpose, and motivation than I could ever give him in return. His bravery carried me through countless long runs, reminding me what true courage looks like, facing life’s challenges head-on, with grace and resilience. His passing leaves a heartbreak that words cannot fully express, but his spirit remains unbreakable. Daniel will live on in memory, in heart, and every step taken in his honour.

“To Daniel, our Brave Heart from Hoedspruit: thank you for the unforgettable moments, the courage you shared, and the motivation you brought to my running days. You will forever be with us. Rest in peace, Daniel Otto. Your race was run with honour, and your spirit will run beside us always.”
