Roads blocked in Sekororo protest, cause unclear

Sekororo residents protested in Metz, blocking roads with stones. The cause is unclear as the area also faces a week-long power outage.

LIMPOPO – Residents in Sekororo, Metz area under Maruleng Municipality took to the streets this week, blocking roads with stones in protest.

The cause of the unrest is not immediately clear, but community frustrations have been mounting after almost a week without electricity.

According to Ward 14 councillor Taola Shai, the prolonged outage is the result of vandalism and theft of electricity infrastructure, including conductors, poles, and cables. Shai acknowledges the community’s frustration, noting that the matter has received urgent attention.

“Eskom is currently busy with the procurement of the necessary materials to restore supply. We are applying pressure on them to urgently resolve the problem,” says Shai. “A shortage of materials in the province has delayed the process, but Eskom has committed to urgent interventions.”

Shai appealed for calm and patience, assuring residents that efforts are underway to find solutions.
