Drakensig Primary celebrates multi-cultural Heritage Day

Drakensig Primary celebrated Heritage Day with colourful music, dance, food, and traditions, showcasing unity in diversity across cultures.

HOEDSPRUIT – Drakensig Primary School came alive with colour, music, and laughter on Friday as learners, teachers, and parents gathered to celebrate the school’s annual multi-cultural Heritage Day.

The event showcased the rich tapestry of South Africa’s diverse cultures, highlighting traditions, clothing, music, and cuisine from communities across the country.

The day was a vibrant reminder of the power of unity in diversity. Learners from different cultural backgrounds worked together to perform traditional dances, share stories, and present exhibits representing their heritage.

Teachers were treated to an array of performances, including song, dance, and celebrating the uniqueness of each community while emphasising shared values.

Speaking at the event, Buks Strydom said, “Today is more than just a celebration; it is a statement about who we are as a school and as a nation.

“Seeing our learners from different cultural groups coming together, learning from one another, and working closely to create something beautiful gives me hope. This unity at a young age is building the foundation for a better South Africa, tomorrow.”

Learners and staff echoed the sentiment, noting that events like these foster understanding, respect, and cooperation among children, encouraging them to appreciate and embrace diversity.

Drakensig Primary’s multi-cultural Heritage Day was a shining example of how celebrating diversity strengthens communities and nurtures the leaders of a united future.
