Inquest opened after girl (6) found dead in pit toilet in Mopani

Mopani police launch an inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of a six-year-old girl who was found in a pit toilet.

LIMPOPO – Police in Hlanganani have opened an inquest following the tragic death of a six-year-old girl who was found floating in a pit toilet at Wisani Section in Nkuzana village on Friday (January 2).

According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the child had been playing outside the family yard with other children when she suddenly went missing.

Her mother realised that the girl was no longer in sight and raised the alarm. Community members immediately searched for her, which led to the discovery of the child floating inside a pit toilet within the area.

The girl was removed from the pit and rushed to a local medical health centre, where she was certified dead on arrival.

Acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers, has urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and always be aware of the whereabouts of their children to prevent similar tragic incidents.

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death are continuing.
