37-year-old arrested for the rape of a child (10) in Ritavi

A Ritavi man was arrested after a 10-year-old was raped while sleeping in the same room as her mother in their home.

LIMPOPO – Ritavi police have arrested a 37-year-old man for the rape of a minor.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the incident occurred on Friday night (January 23). The victim, her mother, and the mother’s partner slept in the same room.

“It is alleged that the suspect raped the 10-year-old victim at their home around midnight while the child’s mother was asleep,” says Ledwaba.

The matter came to light the following morning when the child complained of the ordeal. The incident was reported to police on Saturday (January 24), and the child was taken to a local hospital for a medical examination, which confirmed the rape.

The suspect was arrested and is expected to appear before the Nkowankowa Magistrate’s Court today (January 26) on a charge of rape.

The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit in Tzaneen has been notified to take over the investigation.
