LIC and partners show support for flood victims

Limpopo Impala Cricket, with Hoedspruit Sports Academy, has launched a flood relief drive to support Mopani communities affected by flooding.

HOEDSPRUIT – Limpopo Impala Cricket, in partnership with Hoedspruit Sports Academy (HSA) and other stakeholders, has mobilised a flood relief initiative to assist communities severely affected by recent flooding in Hoedspruit, Phalaborwa, and Giyani.

Following reports of widespread damage caused by heavy rains, the sports organisation acted swiftly to coordinate the collection of essential supplies for families impacted by the disaster. The relief effort focused on providing practical, immediate assistance to vulnerable households facing food shortages and the loss of necessities.

Donated items included 10kg bags of maize meal, rice, tinned food, fresh produce such as butternut and cabbage, toilet paper, Moringa shakes, as well as clothing, shoes, and blankets. These items were gathered through the support of partners, community members, and donors who responded positively to the call for assistance.

HSA played a central role in the initiative and facilitated the handover of the donated goods to Hlokomela, a local organisation that will oversee the distribution of supplies to flood-affected residents in and around Hoedspruit.

Mickey Buyst of HSA said the initiative demonstrated the strength of collaboration during times of crisis. “When disasters like this happen, it is vital that organisations and communities come together quickly to support those who have lost so much. We are honoured to be part of an effort that brings real relief and hope to families affected by the floods,” Buyst said.

He added that working with experienced community partners ensured the donations would reach those most in need. “By partnering with Hlokomela, we are confident that the assistance will be distributed effectively and with care to the people who need it most,” he said.
