More than 20 undocumented foreign nationals were arrested during a late-night operation in Maruleng led by Mayor Tsheko Musolwa.
More than 20 undocumented foreign nationals were arrested during a late-night law enforcement operation led by Maruleng Local Municipality Mayor Tsheko Musolwa.
The high-visibility operation began at 9:00 PM and focused on parts of Finale and The Oaks villages, following community complaints about undocumented foreign nationals allegedly living in the area. It formed part of a coordinated response involving the Maruleng Local Municipality, the police, private security companies and Ofcolaco Farm Watch.
Arrests and processing
More than 20 people were arrested for alleged immigration-related offences and handed over to the relevant authorities for processing.
The operation also targeted businesses suspected of operating outside the legal framework, as part of ongoing efforts to enforce compliance with municipal by-laws and national legislation.
More operations planned
Musolwa said the municipality remains committed to supporting coordinated law enforcement initiatives that promote public safety, ensure legal compliance and respond to community concerns.
“Our responsibility is to support coordinated law enforcement efforts that uphold the rule of law, protect our communities and ensure that businesses operate within the legal framework. These operations will continue as part of our ongoing commitment to public safety and compliance,” he said.
He added that the municipality would continue working with law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders to build safer communities and promote lawful business practices across Maruleng, with similar operations to be conducted regularly to address non-compliance, improve public safety and protect public health.
Municipal officials believe the joint operations will strengthen relationships between law enforcement and local communities while helping curb unlawful activities that affect residents and legitimate businesses.
Law enforcement has encouraged residents to continue reporting suspected unlawful activity through appropriate channels, saying community cooperation remains key to maintaining safe, law-abiding communities across Maruleng.
