TZANEEN – An unidentified man died after allegedly being electrocuted while attempting to steal electrical cables from a transformer near the Greater Tzaneen Municipality on Tuesday, September 22.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 4:45 PM at an open stand next to the municipal offices, where the man was found lying dead.

Alleged cable theft attempt

Police said preliminary information indicates that the man had gone to the transformer in an alleged attempt to steal electrical cables when he was electrocuted.

The man was declared dead at the scene.

Identity not yet established

His identity has not yet been established, and police are continuing with their investigation to determine who he is and locate his family.

Police said efforts are also under way to notify the deceased’s next of kin once his identity has been confirmed.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
