GTM and Agri-Letaba discuss illegal trading at R71 Letsitele
The law must be enforced, says Tzaneen’s mayor, but a plan is being developed to help traders at a Letsitele intersection put food on the table for their families.
TZANEEN – Illegal trading at the R71 Letsitele intersection was among the issues discussed when Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM) officials met with Agri-Letaba CEO Naomi Excell on Tuesday, October 13, to address concerns affecting the area.
The meeting, held in the mayor’s boardroom, also focused on water and sanitation challenges and matters relating to the Energy Forum.
Municipal leaders join the talks
The municipality’s political management team was represented by Mayor Odas Ngobeni, speaker Sannie Tiba, chief whip Given Malatji and planning and economic development head Sophy Raganya.
Report to guide interventions
Ngobeni requested a detailed report on the concerns raised to help the municipality identify and implement appropriate interventions.
He said several water and sanitation issues had been resolved, while work continued on outstanding matters.
Balancing law and livelihoods
On illegal trading at the R71 intersection, Ngobeni said the municipality and relevant stakeholders were developing a plan to accommodate traders while ensuring compliance with the law.
“The law must be enforced, but at the same time, we need to come up with a plan to help our people put food on the table for their families,” he said.
