Red Cross helps 150 Mashishimale households
A village near Phalaborwa was chosen for relief because of its need, with the traditional authority supplying a beneficiary list to help aid reach residents.
PHALABORWA – A total of 150 vulnerable households in Mashishimale village near Phalaborwa received humanitarian assistance from the South African Red Cross Society (SARCS), with funding from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC), during a community outreach initiative held at the Mashishimale Tribal Offices on Thursday, October 8.
The donation, facilitated through the Kgoshigadi Mashishimale Shayi Foundation and the Mashishimale Traditional Authority, aimed to ease the burden on struggling households and improve their well-being.
Aid goes beyond food
Beneficiaries received food parcels, kitchen sets, hygiene packs, blankets, mattresses and other essential relief items. The organisation also handed over 20 vouchers valued at R2 500 each to selected families.
Red Cross explains the aim
The Red Cross Limpopo provincial manager Precious Maesela said the initiative sought to address the basic needs of vulnerable residents while preserving their dignity.
“The donations aimed to provide humanitarian assistance to vulnerable individuals in Mashishimale village by addressing their basic needs and supporting their dignity and well-being,” said Maesela.
How the village was chosen
She explained that Mashishimale was identified as a beneficiary community because of the need to support vulnerable households.
The selection process was conducted in collaboration with the traditional authority, which provided a list of 150 beneficiaries to help ensure that assistance reached the intended community members.
Maesela said the partnership between SARCS and the NLC enabled the organisation to extend humanitarian assistance to communities in need and improve people’s living conditions.
