Cultural festival a jolly affair

Xibelani Projects concluded heritage month in style by hosting a cultural show held at the Tzaneen Showgrounds on Saturday.

The festivities began on Wednesday, September 26 at the Nkowankowa Community Hall where primary school learners competed against each other in traditional dances.

The competition was in two categories; the Xibelani category (Xitsonga traditional dance) and Sekhapa dance (Sepedi traditonal dance).

On Friday evening, a gala dinner was held at Hotel@Tzaneen in preparation of the main event. It started Saturday morning with a gospel festival and concluded with a house, kwaito and hip hop event in the evening.

Even though the crowd did not attend as expected, all the artists that were on the line up list performed at the event.

The line up included; DJ Ganyani, Ntokozo Mbambo, Benny Mayengani, local artist Omee Otis and many more.

Program directors; Kulani Mlangeni, Jamela Makelana and Lesley Musina.

Local radio presenters, Kulani Mlangeni and Jamela Makelana, together with TV personality Lesley Muni, directed the program.

Tinyiko Mushwana was one of the lucky winners who won a smartphone by attending the event.

“I’m so happy and grateful for the phone,” Mushwana explained.

The Mayor of Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Maripe Mangena, also graced the occasion with his presence together with the First Lady, Precious Mangena.

The Mayor applauded Kenny Shivambu, the organiser of the cultural show and says he hopes that the event can be an annual one.

Emelda Tintswalo Shipalana
