Phalaborwa: Local Hip Hop artist pays tribute to his trade
“When I do my music, I do not only do it to vibe but also to motivate, I like to deliver messages in each of my songs."
The 21-year-old Hip Hop star from GaSelwane village, Sydney Mashale, widely known as TC Gee SA, expresses how much he values his Hip Hop music by hosting his own events every month.
The Hip Hop star is also a 1st year marketing student at RoseTec College in Pretoria.
TC Gee SA stated that he normally hosts events and invites local artists from around Phalaborwa and also one main popular artist not from Phalaborwa, to entertain his supporters.
“I just come up with something to create my own event. “For instance, last year December I created one of my biggest events, which is the ‘Selwane meet Lulekani event’ at Ga-Matsie Tavern with 30 artists, 15 artists from Lulekani and 15 artists from Ga-Selwane joining me on stage,” he said. He also mentioned that he would invite 10 local artists monthly and that all the events are held at Ga-Matsie tarvern in Ga-Selwane Village. The 21-year-old said that he discovered that he had a love for Hip Hop music in 2014, and he was inspired by Cassper Nyovest’s music.
“I used to download the beats of any of his songs, and after that I would practice rapping using my own lyrics. That was when I realized that I could also do it,” TC Gee explained.
Mashale said that he enjoys writing and that every time he is bored, he writes.
“When I do my music, I do not only do it to vibe but also to motivate, I like to deliver messages in each of my songs.”
“Most of my lyrics are motivating,” he said.
He also said that he does not rap what he knows, instead he raps about the reality of life. The Hip Hop star stated that he launched his latest single, branded ‘Changes’, on Saturday, March 30, and hosted a mini gig for the launch.
He advised all the aspiring Hip Hop youngsters out there to always be optimistic and that no matter how desperate they need money, they must perform for free. “You never know who is watching.
“I sometimes perform at Kasi Junction, Palamine and other clubs for free, but I know I am building my own fan base, and after performing I would sell myself by advertising my active social media platforms,” said TC Gee.
