Kwanele an advocate for body positivity

According to Kwanele Ngobese, beauty pageants still serve a purpose in today’s society as they empower women.

The 20-year-old from Medi Park, Tzaneen is a semi-finalist in the Miss Empress South Africa 2020, an online national beauty pageant.

She believes that there is more that needs to be done to empower women.

“I believe in the saying that when you teach a woman, you feed a nation, and when you empower one, you empower all,” she explained.

She told Herald that she is proud to represent Limpopo in the prestigious competition.

Kwanele says she is an advocate for body positivity.

Throughout this pageant she will be helping women to embrace themselves.

“Body shaming is taken lightly, but it has an influence on all women in all communities.

“We are sometimes body shamed by men and fellow women, which is wrong.

“As women we need to start uplifting each other.

If we can do this it would create a positive environment for women,” she added.

She is currently studying towards a BA Communication Science degree at the University of South Africa.

“I have always found the media industry intriguing, because of the role it plays in society.

“It has the power to influence and to bring young and old together.

I have always wanted to be part of such a movement,” she added.

Annikie Rabohlale is the current Miss Empress South Africa 2019 and will be handing over her crown on a date that is still yet to be announced.
