Giyani Motion Pictures, founded by Marlvin Rikhotso will officially launch his debut film on Saturday, December 4, at Numetro in Masingita Mall.

The movie titled ‘Nyiko’, meaning gift in English, was shot at Makgakgapatse and Maxavele villages.

The lead actor, Hlayisani ‘N’wajika’ Shiburi, portrays ‘Nyiko’, the main character.

Rikhotso told the Herald that he is excited to have had the opportunity to produce his first movie in Xitsonga.

“One of the main reasons for doing this film in the local vernacular is to instill confidence to the Vatsonga people.

“We are capable of making our own movies and we have the talent right here at home.

Our language has been overlooked on the bigger screens, but we are here to say we are a force to be reckoned with,” he said

News about the project has brought excitement to the people of Giyani. Rikhotso said that they are currently working on a TV series which will hopefully be released in 2022.
