Cop killed in east shooting
Muridili said the suspect is currently in hospital under police guard after he sustained a gunshot wound during a shootout with police.

One person was arrested after a shooting incident on Saturday morning in Garsfontein in the east of Pretoria.
“On 29 February at about 10:30, a police detective from Garsfontein SAPS was allegedly killed by a man which he and his two colleagues were arresting on a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH),” police spokesperson, Colonel Brenda Muridili said.
Muridili said the suspect is currently in hospital under police guard after he sustained a gunshot wound during a shootout with police.
“It is reported that this morning, three detectives from SAPS Garsfontein followed up on information regarding a suspect wanted on a case of assault GBH.”
“On arrival at the corner of Garsfontein and Rubenstein streets, the members approached the suspect who then started throwing stones at the police. On trying to apprehend the suspect, he managed to grab an officer’s firearm then fatally wounded him.”
“The other officers managed to retaliate wherein the suspect was shot and wounded. He will be facing charges of murder and two counts of attempted murder and he will appear in court as soon as he is medically fit to do so.”
Muridili said the name of the deceased member will be released as soon as his next of kin have been informed and his family will be afforded the support needed during their time of mourning and beyond.
