Video: More than 20 miners dead in collision on Limpopo road

An horrific accident on the R572 yesterday afternoon saw a truck ferrying workers from Musina to Venetia Mine involved in a deadly crash.

The MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani, will this morning visit the accident scene that claimed the lives of more than 20 employees of the Venetia Mine situated near Alldays in Limpopo.

Departmental spokesperson Vongani Chauke says a bus ferrying the mine’s employees was involved in an accident yesterday afternoon.

Chauke explains the incident occurred on the R572 about 25km from Musina en route to the mine.

Unconfirmed reports suggest the bus collided head-on with a truck and immediately burst into flames.

It is said that 20 people died and four survived.

β€œA further update will be provided when the police have completed the investigation,” Chauke says.

Radzilani will be joined by the Musina Mayor Godfrey Mawela and senior management of the mine to ascertain facts around the accident, and to pay a courtesy visit to the patients in hospital.
