Eye Care Awareness

When last did you have your vision tested?

This year, we’ve undoubtedly spent more time in front of our PCs, laptops, televisions and on our smartphones than ever before. Most of our work was conducted via a screen, not to mention family gatherings and most of our shopping too.
All this screen time has surely taken a toll on our vision. When last have you had your vision tested? Did you know that 75 per cent of blindness is avoidable through prevention or treatment? Now is the right time to have your vision checked. If you are already a spectacle or lens user, you need to check if your vision has deteriorated at all over the course of the year. Just like your general health and well-being – your vision is equally important. Check out these local eye care specialists advertised on this page and book your screening today. Did you know?

Hellen Keller was the original spokesperson for Knight of the Blind back in America in 1918. She was a fierce activist who was deeply involved in helping blind people across America. It was due to this that she brainstormed ideas of how to help these people and started the White Cane initiative which has now evolved into the well-known Guide-Dogs Association.

Lions Club helps out

The Lions Club has optometrists all around South Africa donating frames of old spectacles. The club collects them, cleans and strips them ensuring they are ready to wear. Funds raised from this drive goes towards caring for the elderly in the community and feeding the impoverished. Spectacles donated by the public are graded and distributed through the Lions operation ‘Bright Sight’ with the assistance of optometrists who also provide eye care and low-cost tests to disadvantaged members of the community.
