Municipal truck involved in massive accident

The driver of a bakkie failed to stop at a stop street and smashed into the truck.

A massive accident occurred on the corner of the Main Reef Road and Cemetery Road when an Isuzu bakkie smashed into a municipal truck on 21 January at approximately 3.30pm.

According to a traffic officer at the scene, the driver of the bakkie failed to stop at the stop sign and subsequently smashed into the truck, causing its driver to lose control and hit the sidewalk.

“Information gathered at the scene indicated that the driver of the bakkie was traveling at high speed when the incident occurred,” says the officer.

“He failed to apply his brakes and it looks as though he had no intention of doing so.

“Eye witnesses indicated that he just went straight ahead without even slowing down one bit.”

She adds that the driver of the municipal truck sustained injuries and was transported to hospital while the driver of the bakkie was able to escape the accident unharmed.

Meanwhile Randfontein Traffic Chief Kenny Mampondo has advised that motorists should always practice the Arrive Alive principle.

“I can never stress enough how important it is to obey road signs,” says Mampondo.

“They are there for a reason and avoiding them could easily cost you your life.”
