Elderly couple gets engaged on Valentines Day

David Mthembu (97) and Sarah Mokoena (85) met in 2013 and head over heels with one another.

While Valentines Day (14 February) may be over, the joys of the day will last forever for an elderly Mohlakeng couple who got engaged on the day.

This was at the Mohlakeng Old Age Home where David Mthembu (97) and Sarah Mokoena (85) met in 2013 and are currently living together.

According to the receptionist at the old age home Busi Galane, the couple is totally in love and this can be seen in how they treat each other and care for one another.

“They met sometime last year and from there on it’s been love ever since.

“The couple spends their days together and they literally do everything together,” says Galane.

“Although Oupa (Mthembu) did not go down on one knee, Mokoena was totally surprised when he proposed and was swept off her feet.

“Their love story is a testament that one can never be too old to fall in love.

“It just gives the younger generation a bit of hope in that department,” says Galane.

Their wedding will be sometime this year but in the meantime, Mokoena apparently cannot get over the moment.
