Collapsed tree causes power outage

Tree collapses on the corner of Kenneth Road and Mimosa Avenue in Greenhills.

A tree collapsed on Kenneth Road in Greenhills late on Wednesday night (26 November). The result was a power outage if not the greater Greenhills area.

The tree is one of the larger trees in Kenneth Road and luckily fell into the direction of the road in stead of into the direction of the house the tree is outside of. Unfortunately for other residents, it fell on Kenneth Road’s over-head power lines. This happened on the corner of Kenneth Road and Mimosa Avenue.

No damage was done to the wall of the house even though the tree was completely uprooted out of the ground. It is believed the tree collapsed as a result of Wednesday’s big storm in Randfontein.

Municipal workers were on the scene at around 8:15am on Thursday to survey the area and that they will return to fix the damage and restore electricity.

The herald will keep residents updated.
