Power cuts expected this weekend

Gear up for load shedding this weekend – use your electricity sparingly.

Power utility Eskom confirmed that there is a high likelihood of load shedding over the weekend.

Since Thursday Eskom announced that the system will be under immense strain over the next few days, particularly over the evening.

The reason for this is because Cahora Bassa – a plant which usually provides an imported portion of capacity – will be under maintenance.

The weekend will also be used as a means to build up water reserves which is used to generate electricity. They also state further that they need to conserve diesel supplies to support the following week. There will be a reduced capacity to meet the demand for electricity resulting in increased need for rational load shedding.

Subsequently, Eskom urges people to limit the use of household appliances and conserve electricity where they can as to alleviate the pressure on the system for less rotational load shedding.
