Stage one load shedding activated

'We are not looking good' - Eskom

Eskom confirmed that stage one of load shedding is to be implemented from 10am to 10pm on Tuesday (3 February).

According to Khulu Phasiwe from the Eskom media desk, “We have lost a number of generating units. There are 12 000MW out as a result of unplanned maintenance. We lost some generating units on Monday and a number of units today (Tuesday) as well.

“As a result of this, the system cannot cope and why we are implementing stage one of load shedding.”

Phasiwe stated further that Monday’s load shedding was not as a result of Eskom but rather a municipal fault in the lines.

“We did not ask anybody to implement load shedding and it could be that the Randfontein Local Municipality have experienced some difficulty with regards to the supply of electricity.”
