Third body found in R’fontein area in matter of days

The discovery of yet another dead person brings the total number of bodies discovered in Randfontein and its surrounding areas to four in a matter of days.

A third body has been discovered in the Randfontein area in a matter of days.

This time, the naked body of a man believed to in his late 20s was found in the open veld next to Modisa Otsile Avenue in Bekkersdal on Tuesday, 11 December.

Three days earlier, the body of another man, believed to have been stabbed to death, was discovered in Betty Street, Elandsvlei and seven days before that, on 1 December, a man who had been reported missing was found dead near a club and entertainment venue in Aureus.

Then on Monday, 10 December, the body of a woman with two gunshot wounds was discovered in a river alongside the R500 in Carletonville. According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, the woman had been dead for some time.

Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, Bekkersdal Police spokesperson, the latest discovery in Bekkersdal has resulted in a case of murder being opened.

“It is alleged that at about 6am, a passer-by was collecting materials for recycling when he spotted a person lying motionless on his back. He went closer to investigate and noticed that he had sustained bruises all over his body,” she said.

He contacted the police and the EMS who certified the victim dead on the scene.

“The identity of the person is currently unknown, but the circumstances surrounding his death will be investigated,” Lefakane said.
