New West Rand sports colours regulation from 2019
West Rand Sports Confederation announces changes to the process of getting colours in any sporting code on the West Rand from 2019.
The West Rand Sports Confederation has announced a change in how one obtains sport colours as of 2019.
According to Vusi Ngubeni, West Rand Sport Confederation Secretary General, committee members of the West Rand Sport Confederation met at the Rand West community buildings in Randfontein on Saturday, 24 November to discuss the regularisation of all sporting codes in the West Rand district.
He said after much discussion, a West Rand Colours Commission was formulated. The Commission will be headed up by Kruben Pillay and his peers – Vusi Ngubeni; Katja Bruwer, the vice-president; Shimi Sedumedi, executive member, and Nicolas Zwane, ex officio member.
“A decision was taken that from the year 2019, anyone living on the West Rand and representing his or her district must wear the battle gear of our district. It is now a requirement that all codes of sport and sporting federations register themselves with me.
“Everyone supported the movement and collectively concluded that West Rand Sporting structures need to be in place in order to get the support required from the government institutes where funding can be sourced. The West Rand covers a vast area, therefore there will be many challenges. The committee’s ability to deal with these challenges and take these hurdles head on, will become the success story for all sport on the West Rand.”
Kruben Pillay, now head of the Colours Commission of all sport on the West Rand, added that parental support is the prop that gives children and young adults the career boost that is required for them to become whoever they want to be.
“Wearing the district colours will give all our athletes, in whatever code they play, the confidence required to become future champions and world beaters.”
Katja Bruwer, the vice president, supported by Vusi, also said that this is the start of things to come in terms of administering and placing all sports on the West Rand in a better place where transparency and accountability will form the pillars of success in the district.
Vusi concluded by saying that the plan is to engage the local government with their future plans.
