The Bekkersdal Police have launched a manhunt for three suspects after they robbed a group of stokvel members of an undisclosed amount of money on Saturday, 8 December.
“It is alleged the victim was with the members of her stokvel when they were accosted by three armed males. They allegedly entered the shack and demanded money whiles threatening them with firearms. They took the cash that was hidden under the bed before fleeing on foot,” said Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the Bekkersdal Police spokesperson.
Lefakane said the matter was reported to the police and in investigation into a case of house robbery is under way.
“Anyone who might have information pertaining to this incident is requested to contact the Bekkersdal Police on 011 755 8160/ 8040, or to contact Crime Stop on 0860010111,” Lefakane added.
Colonel Tinus Swart, Bekkersdal station commander said: “This kind of incident can be avoided. The community is urged to stop making cash withdrawals and rather use bank transfers, as they often fall prey to criminals when drawing their money.”
