Parts of town suffers outage after cable theft

Cable thieves struck again in Randfontein, this time targeting three mini substations in Nassau Street.

Rand West City Local Municipality (RWCLM) confirmed that the reason for the recent power outage in parts of town was cable theft.

According to municipal spokesperson Phillip Montshiwa, three mini substations were disrupted after the main feeder cables in Nassau Street were stolen.

The areas affected by the power outage include Culemborgpark, Greenhills, Helikonpark, Randgate, Homelake, Randpoort, Eikepark, and Wheatlands.

Montshiwa further stated repairs have commenced and affected areas should have electricity by the end of Wednesday.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and we appreciate your continued patience and cooperation,” Montshiwa concluded.
