Rapid Response Team tackles Toekomsrus service delivery challenges

Rand West City mayor says the municipality plans to expand its Service Delivery Rapid Response Team to more than 500 workers as the team continues tackling potholes, faulty high-mast lights and illegal dumping across communities.

The Rand West City Local Municipality’s Service Delivery Rapid Response Team is currently deployed in Toekomsrus and surrounding areas, where workers are addressing a range of service delivery concerns.

The team is repairing potholes, fixing high-mast lights and cleaning illegal dumping sites and public spaces as part of the municipality’s ongoing maintenance efforts.

The Rapid Response Team operates on a rotational basis across Rand West City, having already worked in areas including Bekkersdal, Mohlakeng, Randfontein, Badirile and Westonaria.

More than 250 residents were employed through the programme earlier this year, with Executive Mayor William Matsheke saying the municipality intends to expand the team to more than 500 workers.

“Earlier this year, we employed more than 250 residents as part of our Service Delivery Rapid Response Team. They have worked diligently to accelerate service delivery across our city,” Matsheke said.

He said the expansion would create additional employment opportunities while strengthening the municipality’s ability to respond to service delivery needs.

Matsheke also highlighted the importance of residents and the municipality working together to improve local communities.
