The Gauteng Traffic Police is concerned about the rate of drunk driving incidents that the province continues to experience on Gauteng roads. Another 46 arrests were made this past weekend.
The Gauteng Traffic Police has cautioned motorists in the province against driving under the influence of alcohol after they arrested 46 motorists over the weekend.
The offenders were arrested in various parts of the province such as Mabopane, Diepsloot, Johannesburg and Focvhille on the far West Rand. The bulk of these arrests were effected in Mabopane during a law enforcement operation conducted in the precinct. The highest offender was recorded at 1:03 mg/1000 ml at Mabopane, Tshwane.
“The Gauteng Traffic Police is concerned about the rate of drunk driving incidents that the province continues to experience on Gauteng roads. One of the highest contributory factors to road traffic crashes leading to fatalities is alcohol consumption,” said Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Sello Maremane.
He added, “As we continue to observe the October Transport month, the Gauteng Traffic Police will continue to conduct heightened road traffic policing activities and road safety awareness campaigns across the province in order to save the lives of road users. Anyone found contravening the rules of the road will be severely punished. Lastly, the Gauteng Traffic Police urge communities to report bad drivers in an effort to reduce road accidents and fatalities.”
