Cops take to the streets to mark 16 Days of Activism
Police officers throughout the West Rand continued to raise awareness to the devastating impact that gender-based violence has on society.
Police officers from 13 stations in the West Rand continued creating awareness around the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign by visiting the Bekkersdal community last Friday, December 9.

This time, the campaign was held in collaboration with stakeholders such as Legal Aid South Africa, Westview Clinic, and the Philani Development Centre, among others.
According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane, discussions held with the public mostly involved crimes such as gender-based violence (GBV) and femicide, domestic violence, substance abuse, human trafficking, Illegal gambling, sexual offences, hijackings and kidnappings.
He said cops went on foot and marched from the Bekkersdal West Clinic to Godlo Street, Panya-Panya Street, Letswere Street and Khomo ea Hlaba Street.
“We also gave tips regarding a safer festive season and we also distributed hundreds of pamphlets,” Captain Sebonyane added.
Shortly after the Bekkersdal visit, teams then proceeded to Simunye Extension 5 with a motorcade and continued to spread awareness.
