Farmer shot and killed, wife injured in Randridge
Stock Theft Information Centre and local security company confirm the attack on Randridge agricultural holdings where a farmer was shot and killed.
A man was shot and killed and his wife injured on their small farm in Randridge agricultural holdings last week.
Chairperson of the Stock Theft Information Centre and Rural Safety community in Randfontein, JP de Beer confirmed to the Randfontein Herald that the couple was shot in front of their children aged 8 and 10.
The attack occurred just before 20:00 on August 3.
“We believe that the attack was not financially motivated as the suspects did not take anything from the scene. Instead, they shot the family as they were pulling in the driveway,” De Beer said.
He added the couple was shot multiple times whereby the husband succumbed to his injuries while his wife was injured and transported to hospital.
It is believed that the children managed to get away unharmed.
Local security company Mapogo A Mathamaga’s operations manager Danie Vermeulen also confirmed the attack.
“We responded to an incident of murder and attempted robbery at the agricultural holdings. Armed robbers entered the property and waited for the residents to arrive home. Upon arrival, they confronted the couple and their children. They opened fire, fatally wounding the husband and wounding his wife through her shoulder,” said Vermeulen, who added that the perpetrators fled the scene.
The Herald approached Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi for official police comment but they could not be reached at the time of print.
