Boosting karate in the West
National Coach: The intention is to boost karate in the West Rand and in doing so promote discipline.
Various karateka from Shotokan Karate International South Africa (SKISA) came together as one force at the West Rand Glenharvie Combined School on Saturday, 28 May for a workout with Sensei Brando Pillay, the organisation’s national coach.
Karateka from Vaal Sedibeng, Mpumalanga, Tshwane and the West Rand attended the training session.
The training was action packed with dynamic fighting techniques. Brando is a several time International Champion who has been appointed as the Youth Head Coach of Karate South Africa. He will be leading the National Protea Squad to Croatia for the World Youth Cup.
Sensei Kruben Pillay who has been teaching karate in Westonaria for many years said, “Inviting top coaches to your doorstep opens up the mind of the youth.
They get exposed to different ideas and continuously work at it, giving themselves and the athlete the competitive edge in the sport of karate.”
Sensei Kruben teaches karate in Glenharvie and Westonaria together with instructors Steven Wild, Danie Barnard and Enzo Pillay.
Pillay proudly says their intention is to boost karate in the West Rand and in doing so promote discipline, thus presenting the opportunity for the youth to become good leaders.
Karate classes in Westonaria is at the Westonaria Sport Complex on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4.30pm (beginners) and 5.30pm (advanced). Karate classes in Glenharvie is at Laerskool Glenharvie on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4.30pm.
