Sensei helps student achieve his dream
Due to financial constraints, Norman was unable to grade to black belt.
Emelio Norman from the Westonaria Karate Club recently graded to his first degree black belt after a fundraiser was held by his Sensei, Kruben Pillay.
As a child, Norman grew up on the breadline and during his life, he did odd jobs to earn money and make a living.
Norman’s love for karate started at a young age and he passionately pursued the sport up to the point where he was eligible to grade for his black belt. Due to financial constraints, Norman was unable to grade to black belt.
His coach, Sensei Kruben Pillay, spotted Norman’s dedication and love to this sport and started shifting his attention on the struggling young man and how he can help Norman benefit from the art of karate.
Sensei Kruben Pillay started mentoring Norman and with the help of the Shotokan Karate International South Africa (SKISA) West Rand Organisation and its Kwazulu-Natal head office, funds were raised to assist Norman.
On the grading day Emelio worked hard and the sweat drenched man passed comfortably under the watchful eye of SKISA and Protea National Coach Brando Pillay.
Norman was awarded his black belt and green book. His grading certificate will come direct from Japan.
Sensei Kruben Pillay will now assist Norman to start a karate club and continue with his efforts towards, “helping others to help yourself “.
