Gauteng Sport Awards coming to West Rand
Hang on to your seats, because the Gauteng Sport Awards are coming to the West Rand in October.
Who will walk away a star at the 2017 Gauteng Sport Awards, which will be held on the West Rand three months from now?
Earlier this week it was revealed that this prestigious event will be held at Silverstar Casino in Krugersdorp on 1 October.
Nominations for the province’s most prestigious sports awards have opened and will once again be managed by the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, and the Gauteng Sports Confederation. They are calling on all federations to nominate their participants.
“It is that time of the year again, when the province pays tribute to the members of Gauteng’s sports community at large, and our federations are the best platform to identify the most fitting individuals in the various categories that are now open for nominations,” said Barry Hendricks, President of the Gauteng Sports Confederation.
There are 18 categories to be considered for the awards on the day, with nominations being open from 14 July to 8 August 2017. The selection of the winners will be based on performance or work done between 1 July 2016 and 30 June 2017. Nomination forms will be sent out to all GSC affiliated federations. Nominations are also open to the public, and members of the public can download entry forms at www.gautengsportawards.co.za.
“We’re putting out a plea to all federations to take these nominations seriously, as in the past they have not done sufficient justice to themselves and the deserving candidates for the adjudicators to be able to pick them.
The federations are the best people to guide the province on who is more deserving of these awards, as they work closely with the athletes and administrators,” said Hendricks.
The GSC hopes to see more new faces walk the stage on the night of the awards, as that will mean more talent is being produced in the province.
