Best of the best bowlers honoured
Randfontein Bowling Club (RBC) held an awards ceremony to honour members of the club who have excelled during the 2017/18 tournament on Saturday 14 April.
The president of the RBC, Vera Pretorius, was proud to honour Koos van der Merwe, Lorna Hepharn, and Deon and Erica Snyman, for their outstanding performances and for putting the club on the map.
Koos and Lorna received the trophy for emerging as Club Pairs Winners, while husband and wife Deon and Erica were honoured for being runners-up.
Vera said, “This ceremony today is just to show appreciation for what happened during the year. All our members did really well. RBC is a small club compared to others on the West Rand, but we have very good players, who exceeded our expectations.
“They have put us on the map, and people are actually talking about RBC. We also want to make the public more aware that bowling is not for only old people. We have an U/15 team that has done very well too. We have development teams which are open to everybody of any age.”
The ceremony also celebrated two young players, Layla Snyman and Damien Danhaosser, who played in Bloemfontein in the U/15 national games.
It was also a sad day for the club as it said goodbye to its oldest member, Anna van Niekerk, who has been a member of the club since 2000.
