What not to miss in sport this weekend!
Here’s what’s happening in the sporting world on 7 and 8 July.
The Herald has compiled a list of some must-see sporting action to be broadcast on television on Saturday, 7 July and Sunday, 8 July.
SATURDAY, 7 JULY:
• Rugby:
The penultimate round of the group stages in Super Rugby continues on Saturday as early as 7.10am, when the Chiefs host the Brumbies, followed by an all New Zealand-affair between the Hurricanes and Blues at 9.30am and the Waratahs against the Sunwolves at 11.40am. The first South African team to be in action this weekend is the Bulls, who welcome the Jaguares from Argentina at Loftus at 3pm, followed by a coastal SA derby between the Stormers and Sharks at 5pm. The Lions have a bye.
• Football:
Don’t miss the two last quarterfinals of this year’s Soccer World Cup in Russia! First up is Sweden and England at 3.45pm followed by the hosts Russia up against Croatia at 7.45pm.
If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, try the following …
• Stage 1 of the Tour De France (cycling) at 10.50am.
• Day 6 of Wimbledon (tennis) from 12 noon.
• Qualifying of the Formula One British Grand Prix (motorsport) at 2.55pm.
• Durban July (horse racing) from 3.40pm
SUNDAY, 8 JULY
• Motorsport:
It’s a Sunday full of motorsport action! Tune in as early as 1am for the NASCAR Cup Series followed by the Supercars Championship at 7.45am, the main race of the Formula One British Grand Prix at 3pm and finally IndyCar action from 8pm.
If that doesn’t tick all the boxes for you, try the following …
• Stage 2 of the Tour De France (cycling) at 1pm.
• One of the semifinals of the SuperSport Rugby Challenge (rugby) at 2pm. Teams still in the running at the time of print are the Pumas, Sharks, Griquas and Cheetahs.
• Third T20 International between England and India (cricket) from 2.55pm.
• World Challenge in Brazil (athletics) from 6.30pm.
• FIG World Challenge Cup (artistic gymnastics) from 12.30 noon
