Coach Enzo brings home the gold

His current form is bringing out some very exciting young fighters in the field – Sensei Kruben Pillay after his son won gold in Botswana recently.

Enzo Pillay, 20, recently won a gold medal at the Region 5 World Karate Federation Championships held in Botswana.

Enzo is a nationally accredited coach and an instructor who teaches karate in Glenharvie and Westonaria, alongside Steven Wild, Danie Barnard and his father, Sensei Kruben Pillay. Sensie Kruben is also the Gauteng Karate Federation President.

“Enzo’s current form is bringing out some very exciting young fighters in the field,” Sensei Kruben said.

Kruben added in the same breath that Samantha Mare, 16, the granddaughter of the late Ben Mare from Sibanye Gold/ Goldfields qualified to take part in the under 59kg category of an Olympic qualifier in Croatia.

Samantha said attending and regularly working hard in classes cemented her place. She said keeping faith and being consistent in many of her performances gave her the flexibility to develop herself and create opportunities.

“The training is tough and I endured huge sacrifices to achieve the top form that I currently am enjoying,” she added.

Sensei Kruben encourages all karate clubs to become part of the Gauteng Karate Federation. He said the Federation is an affiliate of Karate South Africa which is the only representative for karate in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

“All schools must ensure that karate clubs running at schools are certified by the Gauteng Karate Federation. The Federation is a direct disciple of the Gauteng Sports Council and is in the correct structure to give them the opportunity to gain regional, provincial and national colours,” Sensei Kruben added.

Anyone wanting to learn karate in Glenharvie, Westonaria or surrounding areas should call 072 142 2062 or 072 838 7528.
