Five dancers from Randfontein's Snapback Studio represented South Africa in the 2019 Dancestar Competition held in Porec Croatia during May

Snap Back Studios in Greenhills has made the town and the country proud while it has been in Europe.

Five of its dancers took part in the DanceStar World Finals in Poreč, Croatia between 22 and 26 May.

According to Caitlin Anne Fitzpatrick, who is both the manager of the studio and the teacher of the dancers who competed, the Illume group achieved a second place in the Modern Dance category.

Miya van Deventer, Liané Nel, Luané Naudé, Mieke Oosthuizen and Tinique de Beer represnting South Africa.

She said more than 7 000 dancers from Romania, Croatia, Slovakia, Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Italy, the Philippines,
the UAE and Russia qualified to compete at the event, which makes their achievement even more special.

We entered other items as well, such as the tap duet. In the final, we got a fourth place, which is excellent!”

She added that going to Croatia presented an opportunity for the dancers to learn from the world’s best competitors.

“DanceStar also offered workshops where the girls had an opportunity to widen their knowledge of contemporary and modern dancing. They also enjoyed a couple of beach parties and could interact with various other extraordinary dancers.”

Hopefully we will be able take a bigger group in the future,” she added.

She said Snap Back was very proud of their achievements on the international stage.
