Local athletes set to shine on home soil
It's all systems go for the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Cross Country League 6 event to take place in Simunye this weekend.
Boabab Athletics Club in Simunye is ready yet again to host the Central Gauteng Athletics (CGA) Cross Country League 6 event at the Simunye Gymnasium on Saturday, 6 July.
Local top athletes will get yet another opportunity to shine on home soil.
The Grandmaster Men 6km event is said to be humdingers, with Two Oceans gold medallist Israel Morkae, and Almon Zibuse from Randmark Running and Cycle Club, a Comrades Marathon achiever expected to go toe to toe.
In the Senior Men 4km event, Kabelo Melamu and his training partners, Andries Sesdedi, Phemelo Ntoe, and Succes Mashigo along with their coach Motlatsi Sesing will be looking to dominate while Cornelia Joubert, who runs for Boxer, is the hot favourite in the Senior Women’s section along with teammate Maria Shai.
“We are looking forward to hosting the event. This is the second time an event of such magnitude is hosted in the township. It is also a way of bringing sport to these people,” said Ofentse Ntibane, chairperson of Boabab Athletics Club.
