Major R100k donation to local volleyball team
'The donation couldn't have come at a better time' – coach.
Locally based Super Kids Volleyball received a major R110 000 injection from the Lottery Fund.
According to Super Kids coach Mushi Mogapi, the donation couldn’t have come at a better time. The money will be used for gym and other equipment, first aid kits, tracksuits, takkies and more.
This will match the standard of the national league we participate in. The sport is dominated mostly by tertiary institutions that have all the right equipment. We have to be on par with them. Our team consists of youth from disadvantaged families, and it is difficult for parents to buy basics like takkies or pay for transport to attend matches.”
Mushi added that Covid-19 has even made it difficult to train or play matches.
“We have also been affected badly by Covid-19. We were supposed to host two major national events. All we have been doing is jogging and cannot risk getting back to full-time training or playing yet. We are just waiting for the go-ahead from Volleyball SA and the Department of Sport. As soon as that happens we are ready to kick off.”
South Africa has since moved down to Level 2 on 18 August, and in terms of the Covid-19 regulations sporting events will be allowed without spectators to prevent the spread of the virus.
