Toekies youngster achieving his soccer goals, literally!
Christian von Melluen was appointed as captain of his team at the Transnet School of Excellence.
The 13-year-old Christian von Meullen of Toekomsrus is soaring to new heights after he was appointed as captain of his team at the Transnet School of Excellence development programme.
In early March, both Christian and Tyrique Koopman were selected for the sponsorship from among 1 500 other teenagers across South Africa, and have made their community proud. Christian’s appointment as captain on Saturday, 10 April brought much delight to his family, especially his father, Clayton von Meullen, who is also a former professional soccer player.

The proud father said he is both emotional and happy.
“I just hope he keeps his feet on the ground, stays focused and humble, and keeps representing Toekomsrus well,” Clayton said.
This is another step closer to reaching his ultimate dream of playing in Europe one day, he added.

“I believe that if he continues in this direction with the extreme dedication he has shown, he can dot it! We hope he can make it into the junior national teams to kick-start his professional career and get the needed exposure to go places,” Clayton said.
