The next soccer star of Rand West City

Latest soccer sensation wants to become one of the fiercest players that Southern Africa has ever produced.

Meet the next soccer star in town, Nkosikhona Matomana from Mohlakeng who is determined to make a name for himself.

When the Herald caught up with the 21-year-old during his weekly training session at the Greenhills Sport Stadium, he said, “To compete internationally will be the ultimate for me”.

The midfielder who currently represents Trabzonspor Football Club, said it was at the age of nine that he fell in love with the game.

“As I played more often, I realised that soccer was a big part of my life. It is only natural for me to choose to do it professionally and earn a living from it. I have chosen soccer because I truly love it. It was either soccer or nothing else for me,” he said.

While training is enough, Nkosikhona said the only way to develop as a player is by looking up to those well established in the sport.

Locally, Nkosinathi would like to play for Mamelodi Sundowns but one day aspires to represent major international football club Manchester City, and become one of the fiercest players that Southern Africa has ever produced.

He thanked his coach and mentor, Mexico, for helping him develop as a player and learning various soccer techniques – some he never knew existed.
