Magalies Monster ‘ideal for the entire family’

Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic 2022 route promises to be both challenging and rewarding!

Magaliesberg — Mountain bikers are guaranteed to be challenged and rewarded at the Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic that will take place at the ATKV Buffelspoort (North West province) on Saturday June 4.

With four events to choose from (a full marathon, half marathon, fun ride and kids event) the Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic is ideal for the entire family.

“The Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic caters for mountain bikers of all ages,” said Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Stillwater Sports.

“One of the North West province’s most revered one-day MTB races, the Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic Marathon consists of a +-65km route that boasts a 1 433m ascent. The terrain consists of a good mixture of gravel roads, jeep track, rocky single track, soft sandy sections, technical climbs and downhills. The inclusion of untouched Magaliesberg Mountain trails and indigenous bushveld makes this route one of the most beautiful MTB routes in and around Gauteng and the North West province. The ‘Monster Climb’ up Breedts Nek is ready for riders. Ideal for experienced and fit mountain bikers, the Marathon is definitely not recommended as a first-time MTB race.

“The Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic Half Marathon consists of a +-31km route that features a 711m ascent,” continued Michael.

“The terrain includes gravel roads, rocky single and jeep track, soft sand at some sections, technical climbs and descents. Although this route does not include the iconic ‘Monster Climb’, riders will have a ‘Mini Monster Climb’ to contend with. The ascent is shorter but steeper than the ‘Monster Climb’ of the Marathon. Most riders won’t be able to ride the entire section as it gets too steep. The racing snakes that are able to ride it will be able to open up a healthy lead. Although it’s not ‘The Monster’, the Half Marathon will be tough, yet fun and is perfect for younger competitors who want to race in a highly competitive environment. It is also perfect for athletes who are new to the sport of MTB racing, as 70% of the route is very ridable and non-technical.

“The Fedhealth Magalies Monster MTB Classic Fun Ride consists of a fun +-15km route that features a gradual 271m ascent,” confirmed Michael.

“The terrain includes gravel roads, jeep track and single track that is not technical. Riders will enjoy cycling in a beautiful indigenous bushveld forest that is easy to navigate. This event is perfect for new riders entering the sport of mountain biking or for the entire family to enjoy together.”
